Official Re-Election Announcement
Campaign Announcement – Commissioner Justin Smith
I am proud to officially announce my candidacy for re-election to the District 25 seat on the Wilson County Commission, a position I have been honored to hold as your representative. I am seeking my third term and ask for your continued trust and support. Early voting will take place from July 17 through August 1, with Election Day scheduled for August 6, 2026.
Experience, Service & Community Background
My life and leadership have always been grounded in a simple but powerful principle: “Service Before Self.” I was raised in a family with a strong tradition of military service—my grandfathers served in the United States Army, members of my family served in the United States Navy nuclear program, and another served as a United States Marine. That legacy shaped my values and instilled in me a deep commitment to serving others.
I have carried that commitment forward through more than 15 years as a law enforcement officer and SWAT team member, and through the last 8 years serving you as your District 25 County Commissioner. Alongside my service on the commission, I currently serve as Chairman
of the Health and Welfare Committee, Vice Chairman of the Budget and WEMA Committees, and I am a member of the Education and Steering Committee. I have worked alongside agencies and community partners during both times of growth and crisis, and I have learned that leadership is not about “I” or “me”—it is about “us” and “we.” I strongly believe that collaboration, listening, and teamwork are essential to making government work effectively for the people we serve.
My family and I are lifelong residents of Wilson County and come from a multi-generational family rooted in the Beckwith Road and Mt. Juliet communities. I am the son of James Smith and the grandson of Robert “Owen” Smith of the Beckwith community. Representing District 25—which includes Leeville, Beckwith, Rutland, Highway 109, Lebanon Road, and portions of Mt. Juliet—is deeply personal to me because this is not just where I serve, it is home.

Future Vision & Public Commitment
Over the past 15 years, we have seen significant growth across Wilson County. While growth brings opportunity, it also presents real challenges that I have experienced alongside many of you. I remain focused on addressing the issues that matter most to our families—education, infrastructure, and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. I believe our children are our greatest investment, and while facilities are important, I will continue to prioritize teachers and the quality of education to ensure long-term success for the next generation.
I also recognize the importance of planning for our future growth, especially when it comes to infrastructure. Many of our road systems and funding sources require strong coordination at the state level, and I am committed to maintaining productive relationships with state leaders to ensure Wilson County receives the resources it needs to continue growing responsibly.
I believe in efficient, accountable government that serves the people. To me, government is a customer service organization—taxpayers are the customers, and elected officials are responsible for delivering results with integrity, transparency, and fiscal responsibility.
It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve District 25, and I am committed to continuing the work we have started together. I respectfully ask for your support and your vote on August 6, 2026, so I can continue serving as your Wilson County Commissioner.
